Find your passion “One of the worst feelings to have as an adult is confusion about career direction or next steps in life. Nobody teaches you about passion, and how it can change your life.. Why didn’t someone sit us down and tell us that this was an important factor in happiness? Not having passion often causes confusion and depression.. Who do you turn to? What steps do you take?

Let’s start with what Passion is. Passion- is a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something. This feeling is truly amazing and no one should give up or stop looking for it. I wanted to give you five tips to finding your passion aka “Discovering You”

1. Make List: Writing and putting things into perspective will start to make your vision clear. Get a special journal dedicated to this journey or download the Evernote App to create a journal. Start simple and make three list one for skills, careers, and hobbies. Under each title you will write down things you’re good at, can’t live without, or things you want to explore. On the top of every page that you are using in your journal find and copy one quote about either passion, dreams, and never giving up. Before you start each list try to read and repeat each quote. These lists are for your eyes only don’t be scared, just write and get it down on paper. When you get free moments throughout the day read/edit each list. Remember positive thoughts will create a positive outcome. Which brings me to our next tip.
2. Positive energy: It is important to have positive people and items around you every day. Purchase a book or download an app about starting over/motivation. Keep this for the days that you feel completely lost. Next find one person that you can count on to give you a pick me up when feeling down. This can be a friend, coworker, or even a social media network.

find-your-pasjpg 3. Find a hobby: You might be surprised a hobby is a good way find the passion burning inside. Remember to schedule in time to focus on this hobby at least once every week. Consistency and excitement are key. If you keep this up for thirty days its time to evaluate yourself, because this is a great accomplishment. Rate your passion for this from 1-10 . Can you make an income off of this? If your answer is no, that’s okay, not every passion is a career change. . Remember finding your passion sometimes is just part of finding your happiness.

4. Stay Inspired: This is important in your journey. Staying inspired will fill you up, and help you to keep fighting for your passion/happiness. A simple thing you can do is create a gallery of pictures on your phone or if you feel real crafty use magazines etc. Create an album entitled “Inspiration”. In this album you should have pictures of things that really inspire you IE. beautiful destinations, wonderful artwork, future home, etc. Make sure weekly you update or edit pictures. Use this as a tool to keep your heart racing. Also, stay around people that are doing what you would like to do. They will inspire you to keep going.

5. Never Give up: Simply put. Life is a journey and you owe it to yourself to keep pushing. Enjoy the happy moments and embrace the sad ones. Focusing on the why’s will not bring you to the solution. Always keep in mind “There are many things in life that will catch your eye, But only a few will catch your heart. PURSUE THOSE.”

“I’m betting you are familiar with the idea that your business is like a big pie (pizza or apple, take your pick). And, that there is plenty of pie to go around for everyone, so it is best to focus on your business rather than give your attention to your competition and feel threatened by whatever they are doing. Well I had an eye opening experience vicariously recently.

A talented coach whom I’d spoken to shared that she was being coached (hey even we coaches have coaches), and her coach had told her that she wasn’t allowed to charge more than he did and was to only create programs that didn’t compete with his in any way.

Whoa! What? In our short conversation, I’d encouraged her to raise her rate, she was undervaluing the tremendous transformation that she provides. She tripled her rate in less than two weeks with ease and was rewarded by the difference it made in her business. When she told her coach, he reacted poorly and made threats about the program she wanted to launch. I was shocked.

As a coach to designers, coaches, speakers, consultants and all manner of service based professionals it is my job and my honor to be supportive, encouraging, and allow my clients to choose their own path. This other coach feels highly threatened by their own client and is freaked out that there isn’t enough pie to go around. This is scarcity thinking and a lack mentality.

Ultimately what is going to happen is that as this coach’s clients will outgrow him because he isn’t growing but instead focused on the lack of pie. 5 Ways to Get to Know Yourself Better

“One of the most powerful ways to get to know yourself is through journaling. Journaling helps you connect to your inner wisdom, which is especially important in our noisy world, according to Sandy Grason, author of the book Journalution: Journaling to Awaken Your Inner Voice, Heal Your Life and Manifest Your Dreams.

“There are so many voices out there telling you who to be, how to act, what to do.”

It also comes in handy when those loud voices are coming from inside. “I have found that your Inner Wisdom whispers and your Inner Critic yells, so you have to get quiet in order to hear your inner wisdom. Journaling is one way to get quiet,” she said.

Journal Prompts for Self-Discovery

journaling Journal writing has no rules, Grason said. Just set a timer and start writing. Don’t stop until your timer rings. Below are five prompts from Grason’s inspiring book.

1. “I don’t want to write about.” This is Grason’s all-time favorite prompt. “It’s just another trick to get your subconscious to let go of ‘protecting’ you from the feelings that are hiding beneath the surface and to let the real you show up on the blank page,” she said.

Set a timer for 10 minutes and write anything that comes to you. The goal is to be honest and vulnerable, Grason said. Write about the most difficult thing you can think of, she said.
After you’re done, you can rip it up.

She gave the following examples: “I don’t want to write about how I’m still mad at my mother for…” or ”I don’t want to write about how I’m afraid that my relationship is falling apart…”

“Sometimes we tend to ‘write around’ the real issues in our lives. We want to make our journals pretty and perfect, when life is never perfect. Allowing yourself to write about the one thing you definitely don’t want to write about will take you right to the heart of what you need to work out on the blank page.”

2. “Who am I now?” Again, set the timer for 10 minutes and respond to this question. Also, consider who you were at different points in your life, such as when you were 8, 16 and 25. Explore the following, Grason writes:
Who were you then? Describe the differences between who you were and who you are becoming. How will the coming months and years transform your life? Then describe the you that has always been here. What is that person’s vision of your life? How has she or he guided you? Have you been listening, or have you been living on auto-pilot? When was the last time you checked in with the inner you that is always there?

3. “Things I love.” How often do you take the time to figure out what truly makes you happy? Write about anything that brings you joy and makes you smile, including the pricey stuff – like tropical getaways — and the priceless – like bubble baths and family outings at the beach. Add to this list regularly.

4. “Affirm how wonderful you are.” Make a list of 10 great qualities, and tell yourself that it’s safe to be you. Grason includes the following example of an affirmation her friend, Jennifer, created: “It is safe to be Jennifer. I am funky, intelligent, creative, wise, multifaceted, powerful, rich, exciting, joyful, energetic, healthy, and connected to Spirit. I bring that special Jenniferness to everything I do.”

5. “Conversation with your 99-year-old self.” Pretend that you’re 99 years old, very wise and in perfect health. According to Grason, answer the following questions in your journal: “What would you have me know? What should I concentrate on in the coming days and years? What things could I do or experience that would have the most positive impact on my life?”

What If Someone Reads Your Journal?

People often don’t journal because they’re afraid of others reading their writing, Grason said. She used to feel the same way. But over time, she found that our thoughts feel bigger when they’re swirling around our minds. Jotting them down on paper brings them down to size. “…Once you pour it all out onto the blank page, you can get some perspective and it doesn’t feel as scary any more,” she said.

In fact, Grason features many of her personal journal entries inJournalution. “It’s all just pieces of me on the page, the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful.”

Again, journal writing is a great way to get to know yourself. As Grason said, “I believe each time you give yourself fully to the blank page, you get a little bit closer to your true Self.  It’s the place that your greatness can whisper to you and remind you of all that you came to this earth to be.”

11 Health Habits That Will Help You Live to 100

One of the biggest factors that determines how well you age is not your genes but how well you live. Not convinced? A study published in 2009 in the British Medical Journal of 20,000 British folks shows that you can cut your risk of having a stroke in half by doing the following four things: being active for 30 minutes a day, eating five daily servings of fruit and vegetables, and avoiding cigarettes and excess alcohol.

While those are some of the obvious steps you can take to age well, researchers have discovered that centenarians tend to share certain traits in how they eat, move about, and deal with stress—the sorts of things we can emulate to improve our own aging process.Of course, getting to age 100 is enormously more likely if your parents did. (Recent research suggests that centenarians are 20 times as likely as the average person to have at least one long-lived relative.) Still, Thomas Perls, who studies the century-plus set at Boston University School of Medicine, believes that assuming you’ve sidestepped genes for truly fatal diseases like Huntington’s, “there’s nothing stopping you from living independently well into your 90s.” Heck, if your parents and grandparents were heavy smokers, they might have died prematurely without ever reaching their true potential lifespan, so go ahead and shoot for those triple digits. Follow these 11 habits and check out Perls’ lifetime risk calculator to see how long you can expect to live.

1. Don’t retire. “Evidence shows that in societies where people stop working abruptly, the incidence of obesity and chronic disease skyrockets after retirement,” says Luigi Ferrucci, director of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. The Chianti region of Italy, which has a high percentage of centenarians, has a different take on leisure time. “After people retire from their jobs, they spend most of the day working on their little farm, cultivating grapes or vegetables,” he says. “They’re never really inactive.” Farming isn’t for you? Volunteer as a docent at your local art museum or join the Experience Corps, a program offered in 19 cities that places senior volunteers in urban public elementary schools for about 15 hours a week.
2. Floss every day. That may help keep your arteries healthy. A 2008 New York University study showed that daily flossing reduced the amount of gum-disease-causing bacteria in the mouth. This bacteria is thought to enter the bloodstream and trigger inflammation in the arteries, a major risk factor for heart disease. Other research has shown that those who have high amounts of bacteria in their mouth are more likely to have thickening in their arteries, another sign of heart disease. “I really do think people should floss twice a day to get the biggest life expectancy benefits,” says Perls.
3. Move around. “Exercise is the only real fountain of youth that exists,” says Jay Olshansky, a professor of medicine and aging researcher at the University of Illinois at Chicago. “It’s like the oil and lube job for your car. You don’t have to do it, but your car will definitely run better.” Study after study has documented the benefits of exercise to improve your mood, mental acuity, balance, muscle mass, and bones. “And the benefits kick in immediately after your first workout,” Olshansky adds. Don’t worry if you’re not a gym rat. Those who see the biggest payoffs are the ones who go from doing nothing to simply walking around the neighborhood or local mall for about 30 minutes a day. Building muscle with resistance training is also ideal, but yoga classes can give you similar strength-training effects if you’re not into weight lifting.
4. Eat a fiber-rich cereal for breakfast. Getting a serving of whole-grains, especially in the morning, appears to help older folks maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the day, according to a recent study conducted by Ferrucci and his colleagues. “Those who do this have a lower incidence of diabetes, a known accelerator of aging,” he says.
5. Get at least six hours of shut-eye. Instead of skimping on sleep to add more hours to your day, get more to add years to your life. “Sleep is one of the most important functions that our body uses to regulate and heal cells,” says Ferrucci. “We’ve calculated that the minimum amount of sleep that older people need to get those healing REM phases is about six hours.” Those who reach the century mark make sleep a top priority.
6. Consume whole foods, not supplements. Strong evidence suggests that people who have high blood levels of certain nutrients—selenium, beta-carotene, vitamins C and E—age much better and have a slower rate of cognitive decline. Unfortunately, there’s no evidence that taking pills with these nutrients provides those antiaging benefits. “There are more than 200 different carotenoids and 200 different flavonoids in a single tomato,” points out Ferrucci, “and these chemicals can all have complex interactions that foster health beyond the single nutrients we know about like lycopene or vitamin C.” Avoid nutrient-lacking white foods (breads, flour, sugar) and go for all those colorful fruits and vegetables and dark whole-grain breads and cereals with their host of hidden nutrients.
7. Be less neurotic. It may work for Woody Allen, who infuses his worries with a healthy dose of humor, but the rest of us neurotics may want to find a new way to deal with stress. “We have a new study coming out that shows that centenarians tend not to internalize things or dwell on their troubles,” says Perls. “They are great at rolling with the punches.” If this inborn trait is hard to overcome, find better ways to manage when you’re stressed: Yoga, exercise, meditation, tai chi, or just deep breathing for a few moments are all good. Ruminating, eating chips in front of the TV, binge drinking? Bad, very bad.
8. Live like a Seventh Day Adventist. Americans who define themselves as Seventh Day Adventists have an average life expectancy of 89, about a decade longer than the average American. One of the basic tenets of the religion is that it’s important to cherish the body that’s on loan from God, which means no smoking, alcohol abuse, or overindulging in sweets. Followers typically stick to a vegetarian diet based on fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts, and get plenty of exercise. They’re also very focused on family and community.
9. Be a creature of habit. Centenarians tend to live by strict routines, says Olshansky, eating the same kind of diet and doing the same kinds of activities their whole lives. Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day is another good habit to keep your body in the steady equilibrium that can be easily disrupted as you get on in years. “Your physiology becomes frailer when you get older,” explains Ferrucci, “and it’s harder for your body to bounce back if you, say, miss a few hours of sleep one night or drink too much alcohol.” This can weaken immune defenses, leaving you more susceptible to circulating flu viruses or bacterial infections.
10. Stay connected. Having regular social contacts with friends and loved ones is key to avoiding depression, which can lead to premature death, something that’s particularly prevalent in elderly widows and widowers. Some psychologists even think that one of the biggest benefits elderly folks get from exercise the strong social interactions that come from walking with a buddy or taking a group exercise class. Having a daily connection with a close friend or family member gives older folks the added benefit of having someone watch their back. “They’ll tell you if they think your memory is going or if you seem more withdrawn,” says Perls, “and they might push you to see a doctor before you recognize that you need to see one yourself.”
11. Be conscientious. The strongest personality predictor of a long life is conscientiousness—that is, being prudent, persistent, and well organized, according to The Longevity Project, coauthored by Howard Friedman and Leslie Martin. The book describes a study that followed 1,500 children for eight decades, collecting exhaustive details about their personal histories, health, activities, beliefs, attitudes, and families. The children who were prudent and dependable lived the longest, Friedman says, likely because conscientious types are more inclined to follow doctors’ orders, take the right medicines at the right doses, and undergo routine checkups. They’re also likelier to report happier marriages and more satisfying work lives than their less conscientious peers.

Successful people rarely resemble the person that they once were. They are constantly educating themselves and gaining experience that will lead them to the goals they desire. Once you have awakened to the possibilities of success, you also realize the many opportunities that abound. And it is easy to allow yourself to become scattered.

Have you ever heard when growing up “be careful who you hang around’. Many times you may be ‘guilty by association’. Well, successful entrepreneurs understand that you can also be ‘successful by association.’
In fact it is virtually impossible to be successful without having a mentor or a friend or business associate that helps to quicken your advancement.
Successful entrepreneurs have someone that accelerated their advancement with either some knowledge they possess or some other resource that they did not have.

This trait is it. I mean this removes all attempts to blame anyone for what takes place in your life.
Successful entrepreneurs never allude to anything that anyone could have done to them. In fact, all the trials that they have, they looked at them as a blessing to learn from. Never giving up control of their lives.
I really love the fact of being in control of your life. Never allowing something outside to control you and the future of your family.
All of these keys, traits, and skill sets make up the Mindset of Successful Entrepreneurs. You probably could think of other variations, but somehow you will end up dealing with these principles.
  • I suggest that you start with #1.  Take the time to pause and clearly define what it is that you want to do all and all of the other keys will begin to flow and merge together.”
